HEIGHT

The seat height should be adjustable I5"-22"

1.    Is the range of height adjustment adequate?

2.    Can the chair height be easily adjusted?

3.    Can adjustment be made from the seated position?

4.    Are adequate footrests available?

5Can you sit with comfort with your feet on the floor or a footrest?

BACKREST

The backrest or lumbar support should be 6-9" above the seat surface- If there is not adequate support use a cushion The backrest angle should be adjustable 100-120 degrees. The backrest should also be high enough to support the thoracic spine.

I.    Does the chair have a high backrest?

2.    Does the backrest interfere with arm movements?

3.    Is the lumbar support adequate?

4.    Is the tension of the backrest adjustable?

5.    Does the backrest tilt back?

6.    Does the backrest lock in position?

7.    Can the backrest tilt back?

8.    Can the backrest be adjusted up and down?

9.    Can the backrest be adjusted forward?

ARMREST

The armrest should have a minimum width of 16" inches and be adjustable from 7 to10 inches above the seat cushion.

1.    Does the chair have armrests?

2.    Are armrests appropriate for the job?

3.    Are armrests optional?

4.    Do armrests interfere with movements?

5.    Are the armrests comfortable?

6.   Can you adjust the height of the armrests?

COMFORT

The seat depth (distance from the front of the seat to the backrest) should be about 15 inches ideally.

 1.    Does the seat pan have rounded front edge?

2.    Does the seat pan tilt?

3.   Is seat pan tension adjustable?

4.    Does seat  pan lock in position?

5.    Do you have one inch space between the back of your knees and the edge of the seat pan?

6.    Do you have one inch space on each side of your hips and thighs?

       7.     Does the seat pan tilt independently or the backrest instead altogether?

       8.     Is the chair adequately padded and comfortable?

Safety and Ease of Use

       1.      Is the chair stable?

       2.      Does the chair have a 5 leg base?

       3.      Are casters matched to the floor?

       4.      Can casters be changed?

       5.      Are all adjustments safe against self or unintentional release?

        6.      Does the chair meet all applicable fire codes?

         7.     Does the chair move easily when you need it to?

         8.     Can you swivel easily thus avoiding twisting your lower back?

          9.    Are the controls easy to use?
